EVA

Eva Carson, “E” to her friends, has a calming presence. She’s nurturing, professional, and grounded, the kind of young person who makes others feel safe. She brings that steadfastness into every space, from summer camps to high-stress conversations.

Eva found out she had been awarded a Pedestal scholarship during a moment of exhaustion, following a stressful call about college costs. The financial boost from Richmond’s newest scholarship fund was a spark of hope when Eva, and her mom, needed it most. Her mother is one of many women in Eva’s life who push her forward, remind her of her quiet strength, and give her encouragement and belief in her future.

Eva desires to become a nurse, a profession where she can be the calm in another’s storm. Her goal isn’t just to have a good job but to gain the training and the chance to make a difference for good. This is what brings Eva satisfaction, knowing she has helped.

She hasn’t always been so sure of herself. Not long ago, Eva Carson was scared of the future, of finding the resources and opportunities any young person desires to make their own way in the world. But her father’s tough love combined with her natural persistence to give her the direction she needed to push through. “Either you do it and get it over with, or you sit there until you finally do.” That mindset changed everything. Now Eva regularly steps out of her comfort zone, to advocate for herself, speak up and move forward, even - especially - when it’s hard.

Eva’s still figuring out the future, though she knows what matters most: peace, purpose, and the freedom to grow into who she truly is. That freedom, she understands, will come first through education. This is why the financial help from The Pedestal Fund matters so much.

Fear of what may happen doesn’t drive her anymore. Eva shows up. Her family, her teachers, her patients in the not-too-distant future, can rely on that.
